Denon was a planet between Osarian and Nubia, was an ecumenopolis world, or city growth covering the entire surface, similar to Coruscant.
Description[edit | edit source]
Denon was at the confluence of the Hydian Way and the Corellian Run.[2] In terms of being an ecumenopolis, it was second only to Coruscant. Denon was a heavily-populated world that rose to prominence during the rule of the Galactic Republic.
History[edit | edit source]
Pre-Republic era[edit | edit source]
The planet was a former colony of the Rakata in the Pre-Republic era.[2]
Old Republic era[edit | edit source]
Denon joined the Galactic Republic early in its history, sometime between 25,000 BBY and 22,000 BBY.[2]
During the Great Sith War, the planet was the site of a battle won by the Republic. The Galactic Republic was once again victorious at Denon during the Jedi Civil War. Millennia later, Denon was successfully defended during the New Sith Wars.[2] During the Galactic War, Denon exosphere was the site of skirmishes between Republic and Sith forces.[5]
During the final decades of the Galactic Republic, investors from Denon and the nearby planet Ardru created the Denon-Ardru Mutual, a powerful mining and refinery corporation known for its tyrannical methods.[3] Denon was where Zam Wesell trained to become an assassin, and was the location of a murder trial against Doctor Evazan, though he ultimately escaped from the courtroom.
During the Clone Wars, the 2nd Sector Army was in charge of defending the vital hyperlane junction at Denon.[4]
Galactic Civil War[edit | edit source]
By 4 ABY, Denon had become an Imperial fortress world. The planet was liberated by the New Republic after a savage battle in 6 ABY.[2]
The world was a New Republic stronghold during the Zsinj and Thrawn campaigns but surrendered to the Empire during Operation Shadow Hand.[2]
Later history[edit | edit source]
A New Republic stronghold during the Yuuzhan Vong War, Denon was not attacked by the invaders.[2] The planet was later adopted as the temporary capital of the Galactic Alliance following the resolution of the war in 29 ABY. Denon was chosen as the new galactic headquarters due to the fact that it had escaped the Yuuzhan Vong invasion unscathed, and thanks to its proximity to the Core Worlds. By 30 ABY, Coruscant had become the galactic capital once more.
Following the Yuuzhan Vong War, the Vahali family, which had fled Kaikielius during Operation Shadow Hand, regained wealth and importance on Denon.[6]
